On May 19th, the ACYC was invited to help out at Carol Libby's Annual Garden Tea Party. We helped set up tables, hand out raffle prizes, and learned about the history of Arcadia! We were able to meet several important figures such as the mayor and many others. We had a great time bonding with each other eating salmon sandwiches and listening to beautiful violin music. Thank you Carol Libby for hosting this amazing event!
The ACYC had their own booth at the Job & Internship Fair at Arcadia High School! We handed out brochures, informed students of our purpose, and encouraged several to apply. Overall, it was a very successful event and our members had a great time. Thank you to the Arcadia HS College and Career Center and the Arcadia Educational Foundation for hosting this event!
For our positivity project, the ACYC set up a miniature Christmas tree in the library of Arcadia High School with cute messages and photos. Go check it out!
ACYC had an up-cycling project where normal everyday items are reused instead of thrown away. We painted on shoe boxes and made tote bags out of old shirts!
A few members assisted the Arcadia Historical Society at the Downtown Arcadia Halloween Harvest Festival with an Arts & Crafts booth! At this booth, we taught children how to make peacock fans and bookmarks.
On June 16, 2018, the ACYC volunteered at the face painting booth for the K-9's and Cops event hosted by the Arcadia Police Foundation. We painted colorful paw prints on children's faces and had a blast working together. This is only the start of a great Father's Day weekend! Happy Father's Day to all of the wonderful fathers!
Later on, the ACYC hosted its very own event at the Arcadia Public Library: History Day! At this event, we educated children about the history of Arcadia through fun activities and games. Children had the chance to pin peacock feathers on a paper peacock, trade beads for candy, throw bean bags to answer trivia questions, match pictures of Arcadia's past with facts, and color peacocks in the crafts booth! Parents took pictures as their kids had a blast learning about the city they reside in. In the spring of 2018, ACYC was invited to help volunteer at a tea party hosted by Carol Libby, a member of the Friends of the Arcadia Historical Society. We had a wonderful time meeting the important people that represent Arcadia and serving the wonderful guests!
Petal Pushers have been busy! We recently painted recycled water bottles and put flowers in them for decoration at our Feeding Homeless event! The guest loved it and even decided to take the decor. We got to do it again after receiving carnations, which we put in recycled bottles and gave to the hospital.
During the summer of 2016, the ACYC got the amazing opportunity of hosting our first-ever Youth Engagement Program (YEP) at the Imagination Theater at the Arcadia Public Library. We dedicated a couple Wednesdays to teaching children about the history of Arcadia while having fun doing various activities.
On July 23, 2015, the Arcadia Civic Youth Council worked with organizations such as the Arcadia Rotary to provide an exemplary experience for Special Olympics World Games athletes from Trinidad and Tobago and the Kyrgyz Republic. Nearly 50 of our members came out to support the athletes. On July 18, 2015, we held our first fundraiser and raised $621 in the process. We continued our involvement with the Arcadia Historical Society by helping them with Belkins Inventory and Downtown Arcadia Street Fair.
